When we started planning for Thunderbirds 1965 back in July one of our key concerns was 'What will the characters wear?' A number of people have expressed surprise that we didn't slavishly attempt to match costumes from the original series, but from the start we felt that our approach to this project should be, 'What would A.P. Films have done?' Although costumes were recycled (especially in earlier episodes), there was a definite move as the series progressed to make the characters increasingly fashionable and varied (see The Duchess Assignment where Lady Penelope changes outfit at seemingly every possible opportunity). Therefore, in conjunction with our fabulous Costume Designer Liz Comstock-Smith we decided to furnish the characters with entirely new wardrobes.

After lengthy discussions about the sort of outfits that might be appropriate - with much reference to fashions of the era - Liz went away and created bibles for each episode suggesting designs and suitable materials that would both look good on screen, but not be too restrictive for the puppets to move.

For us, the costumes have been one of the most successful elements of this production, so we thought we'd share with you a gallery of Liz's work to date. We're looking forward to seeing what she comes up with for The Stately Homes Robberies which goes into production next week!

Set Visits and Backerkit
about 9 years ago – Wed, Nov 11, 2015 at 06:05:27 PM

Hello backers!

Over the last few days we've opened up the Thunderbirds 1965 studio to the backers who pledged for our set visit rewards. We've really enjoyed sharing our experience with some of the fans who helped make this happen.

We’d also like to take this time to remind you that there is less than a month to go before Backerkit closes and your accounts are locked. Backerkit allows you to check that we have a proper record of the items you have pledged for, make a record of your postage details, and even pledge for further exclusive items should you so wish.

If you have not already completed your Backerkit survey, please be sure to head over to https://thunderbirds-1965-new-episodes-from-1960s-recordin.backerkit.com/ and access your personal account using the same email address you use to access Kickstarter.

Thunderbirds Set Visits and 1965 Experience packages have been underway for some time now, with further dates pencilled in for the weeks to come. If you pledged for either of these reward levels, but have not arranged a date with us, please get in touch via Kickstarter or by sending an email to [email protected] as soon as possible. It has been a pleasure to meet many of our supporters and we’d hate for anybody to miss out!

Here are some pictures from our recent visits:

November has begun and pre-production is now underway on the third and final episode of our mini-Thunderbirds revival - The Stately Homes Robberies. Director Justin T. Lee is coming to the end of shooting on his episode, 'Introducing Thunderbirds', and original series Director David Elliott is preparing to step onto the floor to helm his first episode in 49 years.

We were priveliged to have original series directors Davids Elliott and Lane both on set yesterday. David Lane was paying his first visit to the Thunderbirds 1965 studio and gave us a big thumbs up. It's been great for us to get the seal of approval from members of the original team.

It's been great fun to be part of this mini-revival of Classic Thunderbirds and the team is raring to go for the final episode. We're also looking forward to welcoming backers who pledged for set visits over the next few weeks.

It's with slight sadness, though, that we realise that the production phase of the project is gradually drawing to its conclusion. However, all good things must come to an end...

We hope you'll all enjoy the fruits of many sleepless nights and long hours!

This Week on Thunderbirds 1965
about 9 years ago – Sun, Nov 01, 2015 at 06:28:04 PM

It's been another busy week on Thunderbirds 1965. We kicked off with a handful of reshoots for The Abominable Snowman (we're very picky about what we film...) before moving onto Introducing Thunderbirds, which Justin T. Lee is directing. Preparation is now underway on The Stately Homes Robberies which will be going into production during November.

Here are some shots from the week:
